Assessment and Testing

Assessment and testing is designed to identify muscle imbalance and structural misalignment. These muscle imbalances create strain patterns which often result in chronic pain.  Assessment and testing provides the therapist with the knowledge required to develop a custom treatment and care plan or an individualized maintenance plan.

Assessment and testing is usually part of the initial intake process and is an in-depth procedure which also may include charting a complete medical history and range of motion results.  It generally lasts approximately 1 hour however; after this is done initially it should only need updating in following sessions. Some bodywork may be administered during this time.

Serenity Massage

This massage provides a sense of peace and serenity while providing many benefits; some of which are: it improves circulation, regulates breath rate, enhances immune system function and lymph drainage, reduces stress and tension, improves joint flexibility, balances organ and glandular systems and relieves minor aches and pains. It is a perfect choice for relaxation,
rehabilitation or health maintenance.

Aromatherapy Massage

The strokes and benefits are similar to the Serenity Massage but incorporate a customized essential oil blend for added improvement to your state of wellbeing and balance.

Therapeutic Massage

This is a deeper massage than Serenity massage and is helpful in restoring and maintaining the structural integrity of the body. This massage utilizes standard massage strokes with pressure in order to detect hypersensitive areas in muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. When sensitive areas are found, specific techniques are applied to the area for relief from pain.

Should referred pain and/or trigger points be present care will also be given to those.

Reflexology

This is a form of bodywork based on the theory of zone therapy, in which specific spots on the feet or hands are pressed to either sedate or stimulate corresponding areas in other parts of the body. Foot reflexology, in which pressure techniques are applied only to the feet, is themost common form of reflexology.

Craniosacral Therapy

Cranio refers to the cranium, which is the bony part of the head. Sacral refers to the bony bottom of the spine called the sacrum. In the 1900s Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopathic physician, discovered cranio movement. In the I 970s Dr. John Upledger, an osteopathic doctor, helped to further Sutherland’s discovery as both an evaluative tool and a corrective one.

This therapy is a feather-light touch manipulation of the head, bottom of the spine, and various key points in between in order to restore optimal cerebrospinal fluid movement. The movement has a pulse and a rhythm, when this is balanced it optimizes your state of wellness.

It is especially beneficial to those who cannot endure the pressure of a deep massage but need relief from pain such as those with Fibromyalgia or similar dysfunction.

QrthopedicMassage

This massage uses a broad spectrum of techniques and approaches to treat soft tissue dysfunction. It deals with problems of the locomotor system and is quite comprehensive. It is usually administered to a particular area or muscle group.

Therapeutic Touch Therapy

This bio-field therapy is an energy based approach to healing and health. It uses touch to influence the human energy system which affects the physical body. It is a non invasive technique which clears, energizes and balances the human energy field thus affecting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of the person.

It was developed by nurses Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz during the 1970’s after studying the ancient practice of laying on of hands. It is used extensively in the nursing profession.

Oxygenation Therapy

This is specifically designed to simulate the movement of fish swimming. This movement can give you a low impact workout in 15 mm. comparable to a 30 mm. aerobic session without impact on the joints. It aids circulation by bringing more blood flow and oxygen to cells, it helps muscle tone and joint flexibility, it helps the flow and drainage of lymph giving you improved blood circulation, stronger immune system, better stamina and better sleep.

It is important to lie completely still after the machine stops for 3-5 mm. and drink at least 8 oz. of water to help flush out impurities.

Polarity Therapy

Polarity therapy is a form of bodywork that uses light touch and gentle rocking movements intended to balance life energy by affecting general and muscular relaxation. Polarity therapy was developed Dr. Randolph Stone, who was trained in natural healing methods of chiropractic, naturopathy and osteopathy. It is a holistic system which promotes deep relaxation and revitalization by balancing the body’s energy.

It was designed to help the whole body, not just the part which is in pain. It also seeks to harmonize people with their environment and nature. We are energy and all energy is governed by 3 charges; positive, negative and neutral. These energies are the foundations upon which our bodies were built and also what sparks our nervous system thus affecting our thoughts and movements and fuels us until the day of our death. Polarity Therapy balances these subtle energy currents through gentle manipulation and helps us keep it vibrant with love, positive thought, exercise and proper diet.

Dr. Stone was a Doctor of Osteopathy and Naturopathy and he was a chiropractor. He helped people to help themselves for over 60 years. He was a world traveler who studied ancient healing traditions and passed away in 1981 at 93 years old.

Ortho-Bionomy

Ortho-Bionomy is a technique where points of pain are located and then the body is gently moved to fold around the point and rest in a position where there is no pain. The body is placed in the most comfortable position called the preferred position. In doing this, reflexes are initiated, relaxing muscles and freeing the body of its stresses and tensions.

Ortho-Bionomy was developed by British osteopath Arthur Lincoln Pauls, D.O. ‘Ortho’ means straight or correct; ‘bio’ means life; ‘onomy’ means pertaining to laws so orthobionomy can bedefined as the ‘correct application of the laws of life.’ Ortho-Bionomy shows the body, through physical and energetic patterns, how to understand its own functioning, then helps the person tore-discover how to keep their body functioning in harmonious ways.

It acts as a reflection for recognizing life patterns that don’t work or create pain. We train ourselves not to notice our body’s attempt to communicate its needs. Ortho-Bionomy helps to remind us of the availability of comfort and change. It doesn’t ‘teach’ us something ‘new’, it reminds us of what we already know and this re-education happens spontaneously.

Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls, who was a Judo instructor in England, founded Ortho-Bionomy whenhe was exposed to osteopathy from a patient’s point of view. He learned, through Dr. Jones’ experience, how to allow the body to find its own balance without force. Dr. Pauls came to understand how emotional and energetic disturbances create imbalances in our structural integrity after 22 years of research. Through the principles of Ortho-Bionomy, therapists can help the client to find their own motive and their own way out of their ‘stuck’ patterns.

Energy Center Balancing

There are thousands of energy centers in the body; however, the ones which are more commonly known are the 7 Spinal Chakras. There are 4 more which could also be considered as ‘major’ and are found in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, making 11 in all. If you follow the natural formation and curves of the spine you will see that the first chakra lies in the pelvis, the second is just above it at the sacrum, the third at the lumbar vertebrae, the fourth about mid thoracic, the fifth at the cervical vertebrae, the sixth at the front of the cranium and the seventh at the ‘crown’ of the cranium.

When these major centers become imbalanced energetic flow is diminished, depending upon the depth of the imbalance. The spinal column houses the spinal cord which is the pathway for cerebral-spinal fluid flow, this too is affected by disturbances with energetic flow. The curves of the spine can be likened to the bends of a river and spinal energy flow is the water-like current which flows as the river does around its bends.

The center of gravity in the body is a theoretical point is space located about 2” in front of the second sacral segment, just above the second chakra. Cleansing and balancing these centers revitalizes and harmonizes the body. It’s a non invasive technique in which the client can remain fully clothed. Semi-precious minerals and gems are usually used to aid in the harmonization.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a system for healing and health maintenance that has evolved over thousands of years.  Shiatsu was born from both the ancient healing art of acupuncture and the traditional form of Japanese massage, Amma. It uses the application of finger pressure on pressure points in order to clear and restore balance to the body’s energetic pathways.

The goal of each of the different types of shiatsu being practiced, Zen shiatsu, tsubo point therapy, shiatsu massage and watsu (water shiatsu), is balancing energy flow.
